I started my work and professional life, within a security force and, under said Institution, I was educated in the concept of “Security”, one of the functions assigned to fulfill its performance in the preservation of public security, the protection of people and their heritage.
This is how I exercised and trained myself in the different methodologies and investigative analyzes that allowed me to understand the development of an illegal act, the way in which it was conceived and produced, thus learning how it should be prevented but also, mainly, allowing me to know what had been the mistake or failure to make it happen.
The fact of having traveled a daily path, step by step full of continuous challenges, where the precious asset is none other than the lives of people as their assets, make one acquire knowledge and experiences that are unique since the experience it is non-transferable and is achieved by "knowing" that course.
Already retired from said occupation and with a baggage of experience accumulated through those years, different friends suggested that I channel all that knowledge, techniques and experiences, under the figure of "Security Consultant".
That caused me an interesting question, What are you a consultant? and What is a Security Consultant? This led me to look for the concept, as its meaning as a word, to fully understand the term.
What is a Security Consultant
The Consultant, Advisor, Auditor, Analyst is a person who sells "confidence, seriousness and professionalism", so I determined that he is an individual who advises or gives his opinion on a general or specific subject within his specialty, therefore it is not another something that a subject suggests or advises providing a professional service.
In even simpler words, the Safety Consultant is like the clinician who knows his subject in general, but when he is presented with a topic that goes from the general to the particular, he must turn to the specialists
The Security Consultant is a simple term, but it encompasses a broader and multifaceted sense since it addresses a diversity of topics since it must know its subject from now on but, in addition, will have knowledge of the other branches of security (Electronics , Industrial, Banking, Computer Science, Airport, etc.)
However, there is an explanation, the consultant was able to obtain his experience in an academic way by studying at a University or by having developed the profession for which he is cited.
It seemed to me an interesting definition, since the consultant is a person with experience, with accreditations and proven capacities, necessary to fulfill a task that a person or company may need on a specific topic.
It is the person who has the ability to "Solve Problems" because they have the Expertise and Technical Knowledge based on the experience of the daily practice of the activity.
Thus it was demonstrated that the consultant is a professional activity not a business opportunity, especially when the issue is one of "security" since she must appreciate and advise on something as important as the protection of life, people and their property.
The Security Consultant is one who has had the “experience of the street”, in the daily observation of harmful events and not one who has good intentions and adopts a position of “understood”, committing a third party in a possible risk
In terms of security, a high point in our current society, one must be "responsible" in the area of knowledge, as is the staff he has, since it is his "professional credit", there is no other.
This is how a recognized and esteemed "Security Consultant" taught me, whom I always turn to in consultation, "In Security, the certainty lies in the quality of what is used, a" good professional "and" optimally installed systems ", is the known fact that systems are only as good as their components and that they allow them to be compatible and interchangeable. That is where creativity and professionalism lie "
The advancement of technology has come and allowed the consultant's field of action to be expanded, because it is true, the consultant is not an expert in everything and, therefore, must interact jointly with all the branches that compose it.
This allows, depending on the branch that it is, that both expertly evaluate, diagnose and design a security system that combines both physical and electronic security and thus allows reducing the percentage of risk or its consequences
